Taken in 1962 on a coastal freighter captained by Ward Whaitiri. Ward was the first Maori person to obtain this rank. I was an official 'stowaway' along with Tim Tuuta. We left Wellington to holiday with Maria McLeod in Stoke (Nelson). Maria is the eldest daughter of John Hone and Molly Tuuta.
