Topic: Treaty of Waitangi.

What does the Treaty mean to you and how has it affected you and your whanau?

I think our tipuna were on to it. if it wasn’t for them back then we would have absolutely nothing today. And really i think it is the pakeha who regret signing the treaty because it has come full circle and our maori are now educated enough to speak up for themselves in doing so they need to think of our people and not the individual. so that it works out for generations to come and not just the maori of today.

As for Pakeha that i have come across some think yes that we should be rich and yes! we our as a people. that dosn’t mean its money though. And some think we are out right greedy and should be greatful for what we have. They know not what they say! Lack of Knowledge. He tau iwi !!!

(But their are some big big Greedy people out their. kia tupato it hits u in the bum.) ooowww am i aloud to say bum my bad.

Well all I can say is if you want some money write to your tribes’ trust and they might send you an application....and you’ll get your handshake..LOL

The Treaty was written and designed by Pakeha. I doubt if anything else but money would have been on their minds...don’t recall getting a handshake either

I dont believe the Treaty was there for monetary gains but to protect what Maori of that time held dear....which meant more than money could buy and that was...Land, Bush, Sea..and all it encompasses...It meant looking after what was natures gifts by blessing the gods who provided it and taking only what was needed. Land, Bush, Sea provided us a means to heal, feed and clothe our families for free....and it still can if we can stop polluting it and abusing it and selling it off.
Some of our people have become too greedy, money becomes their top piority.....and the little people get a handshake.

Do we get any benefits from the Treaty and if so how? My Pakeha friends keep telling me that we Maori should all be rich because of the Treaty settlements but me and my kids haven’t seen anything…
