Apparently! I say this because it was never explained to me as a Trustee in person or in writing as to why the 2 Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust staff members resigned!
Except that it was confidential! Why?
I asked the so called interim Manager for copies of these resignations and was told no, as these were “highly confidential”. Kind of smacks of “conflict of interest” coming from one of the persons who potentially (well he’s still there isn’t he?) benefits from these “highly confidential” resignations don’t you think?
FATMAN & ROBBER
What I do know, is that there were some HR issues with the staff, that I was to be involved with, in finding the best way to resolve them. This was a request from a staff member.
Next thing I know - The staff had “resigned”. I was not privy to this process and/or having access to resignation letters which concerns me as a then liable Trustee!
I was not in any way present at any convened meeting for the expressed purpose mentioned above nor have I been given any information confidential or otherwise in regards to this matter.
While we’re on the subject; the reason I resigned as a trustee was because the chairperson accused me of threatening to kill her. I considered this (and I’m sure you would as well) a very serious accusation and therefore raised it at the Trustees meeting in regards to conduct of trustees and requested that it be dealt with as a board and that the police need to be brought in to investigate the truthfulness of the accusation.
I felt that the response from the board (none) was very poor considering the seriousness and credibility as a board in their ability to look after it’s own affairs - let alone Iwi affairs!
I will endeavour to clear my name and am currently seeking legal advice. Sure this is a personal issue, but I did not want to bring any disrepute upon the board and therefore the Iwi and so resigned and believe that the chairperson should also resign until this matter is dealt with!

agreement_of_intent.pdf
Click here to check it out...
The agreement goes back to the beginnings of the Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust in September 2003 and highlights the requirements of the 2 differing factions to be able to come together as one, and then to move forward united for the benefit of the Iwi.
Item No 3 sets the scene (don’t know what happened to item no 2)”...management procedures, portfolios and clear communication systems...”
Not too sure about the current management procedures as all the staff have apparently resigned and a new manager based in Auckland costing $1,200.00 a day and a ?????? costing $2,500.00 a day, is what the Trustee’s have determined to be the best way to lead us into the future!
Item no 6 (11) of the Agreement of Intent is a real corker! You see, the Judge is looking at all aspects of the Runanga which includes its “successor” the Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust.
Firstly, investigating the Agreement of Intent as to whether it had been implemented as agreed will certainly get the alarm bells ringing for him!
And then there’s the registration process! Very fraudulent!
Hope there’s no conflicts of interests anywhere...i.e. brother, sister, aunty, niece, nephew - you get the picture;
and what about the justification of spending money and the processes that saw people contracted in?
I wonder who the judge will want to talk to? I wonder who in the government he will be reporting to? I wonder if anyone will have the audacity to say; “I didn’t know"?
Not according to my paper trail…

The agreement set out what needed to happen to enable us to do this - 6 years later, this is where we are at; High_Court. < Click here
As you can see, Judge Hingston is about to resurrect the Runanga! Why?
What will be the purpose of the Runanga?
Why the need for elections?
Why has the New Zealand High Court and Maori Trustee not only re-registered the Runanga, but have appointed a retired Chief Justice, High Court & Maori Land Court Judge to ensure all this happens?
Stay tuned for the “Agreement of Intent”...

It's time for a change, so... | 3 Aug, 2007 |
Yep! It can only get better!
I feel that i’m the best person to represent those of us living in Te Waipounamu as I’ve lived here for over half of my life!
I have built up excellent relationships with not only our own people, but also with the Tangata Whenua Ngai Tahu, Crown agencies, City Council, Local MPs and of course the locals themselves!
I have never been an executive, or am not in any way providing services for any financial gain to the Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Iwi Trust that would put me and/or the Trust,

in an obvious position of conflict that would jeopardise the integrity of its executive, its members and any Treaty claims.
I invite you all to join with me to make a change for the better of our Iwi, our Island and our future.
If you have not registered with the Iwi Trust, then i advise you to do so before the 22 September 2007 and make your vote count!
Right click here Steves_Profile.doc to read my profile.
I look forward to receiving your support and any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me by clicking on the “Contact Us” option up in the top left hand corner of this website,

Ko Mutunga
Ko Kapewhiti
Ko Hautonga
Ko Kahe te Rau O Te Rangi
Ko Mere Hautonga
Ko Matoha
Ko Te Amo
Ko Tom Tuuta
...and then me!
Whakapapa is the basis of being Maori. It allows us to know our Iwi, our Hapu and our Whanau. It also allows us the realisation of how we are related to each other.
Some of us (probably most) would be able to find our links back to Mutunga through multiple lineage. And that’s the beauty of Whakapapa.
And you are all invited to share in this beauty…
Where: 153 Gilberthorpes Road, HORNBY
When: Saturday 17 March 2007
Time: 10.00am
Bring a plate, a smile, and any books/photos that you would like to share and come an join us with Dr Terry Ryan (Whakapapa Expert).
To all the Whanau that are flying in from the North Island e-mail me what flights you are on and I will get someone to pick you up?????
Once again, any queries, feel free to contact me via the "contact us" option at the top left hand corner of this website or email me at or phone/txt on; 03 354 2495 or 027 666 8794.
REMEMBER! We all have a right by Whakapapa under the Treaty of Waitangi regardless of where we reside. There are people out there who claim to represent us and our Whanau.
We sent them this letter in July 2006 - Letter_to_the_Runanga.doc (Panui/News Archives)
After numerous phone calls and emails we finally got this response and it’s only taken them 7 months! - Fw_.doc
Yep, you read it for yourselves. they don’t want anyone to know about anything cause if they had nothing to be afraid of, they would have gladly responded seven months ago and requested that we show all the members via this website how accountable they are with our assets and why we should support them - NOT!

Enjoying... | 24 Jan, 2007 |
An excellent hui to start the year with, thanks to all those who made the commitment to come along and support the kaupapa of being proactive in changing the current situation for Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri.
We all know that the situation is as dismal as it has ever been and is an embarrassment to us and our Tipuna and to do nothing is to condone the actions of a very greedy minority.
The essence of being Maori is our Whakapapa or our connections to one another through bloodlines and also to the land, therefore our next hui will be a Whakapapa wananga.
We will be approaching Dr Terry Ryan to present and to guide us as he brings a wealth of knowledge and Mana with him as well as having the ability to be impartial to Ngati Mutunga o Wharekauri Whakapapa.
So as soon as we have confirmed with Terry, we will send out the details (looking at end of Feb - early March) and will probably be at the same venue so a big Mihi to Aroha and the Te Puawaitanga ki Otautahi Trust for allowing us the use of their facilities.
So keep up the good work everyone and I’m sure we look forward to catching up with each other at the Wananga!

Getting the ball rolling... | 20 Dec, 2006 |
Saturday 20 January 2007! Keep this date in mind.
Why? cause that’s the day that we will get together to hui on what is happening back home on the Chathams and what we can do to improve the current situation.
Bring an open mind, a plate and a sense of humour to 153 Gilberthorpes Road in Hornby at 11.00am.
Any queries, feel free to contact me via the "contact us" option at the top left hand corner of this website or email me at or phone/txt on; 03 354 2495 or 027 666 8794.
Look forward to hearing from you all - have a good one!
Speaking of meetings, I hear the Runanga’s Special General Meeting only had 12 show up! Gee, support has doubled!!!

Runanga calls for Special General Meeting | 27 Nov, 2006 |
1. To amend the present constitution under section 8.0 Alterations of Rules.
2. To ratify and adopt the new constitution.
Firstly, click on the link below and open or save it to your computers desktop. It is a copy of the Runanga’s current constitution.
Constitution.doc
Cool, done that? Okay, go to section 8.0 Alterations of rules. The last part of that section clearly states; ”...a copy of the notice containing the proposed alteration, addition or rescission shall be forwarded by the Executive to each member not less than twenty eight (28) days before the date of the said Annual General Meeting."
The Special general Meeting is to be held on the 13 December 2006 at 6pm. Hands up all those who received from the Executive, a copy of the notice containing the proposed alteration, addition or rescission, on or before, 15 November 2006?
Remembering of course this is not for some members - but for all members!
Now go to section 5.2 Special General Meeting. Who were the required 20 members that requested this meeting and why did it need to change, i.e. what was wrong with the current constitution?
Now go to the Panui/News Archive section of this website and find the article I submitted on the 25 September 2006 titled “Who Represents our Chatham Island Iwi interests?”
Reread this article and also the letter to the Runanga doc that is attached. The letter was addressed to the executive members of the Runanga dated the 31 July 2006, and asked seven questions that I, as a member, have grave concerns with, in regards to the lack of process and accountability from these executive.
To date, none of these concerns have been dealt with in any way, shape or form.
So why would this executive who can’t or won’t abide by their own current rules and regulations, want to invent a whole new set of rules? What’s confusing is they say they want to amend (fix) the current rules, yet also approve a whole new set of rules???
Now the current rules has a constitution that is 13 pages long and as you have seen, they can’t handle it, however, apparently a new one that they will try and slip through, has over 50 pages!!!!
Filled with gobbly gook and legal speak that executive members couldn’t spell or pronounce let alone understand!
So what can we do about it? At the moment we are getting a team together to put an end to this carry on, once and for all. Consider this a personal invitation to you all, to come aboard. We will keep you posted through this website and are currently looking at having hui in the very near future.
Take care, and feel free to use the "Contact Us" option at the top left hand corner of this website’s homepage.

So how did it go? | 27 Nov, 2006 |
What an excellent venue for the inaugural Chatham Islanders weekend gathering of the clans! A big mihi to Patsy and Henry Daymond and all those others that organised and supported the kaupapa!
From Friday to Sunday they came, some stayed a little while had a catch up and a laugh, some stayed the night and others stayed the whole weekend!
Coes Ford is out of everyones way with a nice green shady spot right next to the river only 30 minutes out from central city.
Plenty of ideas for the next one especially for the kids, i.e. spotlighting for eel and/or trout, organised games such as tug-o-war, races etc.
So feel free to send your suggestions in to this website, you’ll have to register to get on to the website! - Nau mai, haere mai!
I’m sure there will be more tents put up next year - don’t have to worry about drink driving or rushing about, just sit back and relax and enjoy the company and the many stories being told. The stories got better and better as the night wore on and the crates got emptied, guitars blazing, and everyone singing up a storm and of course the food was on the go all night!
Boil ups, barbeques, seafood and of course trifle with plenty of cream!
For me, the best thing was to be able to sit down and enjoy each others company regardless of who was who and feeling good about being a Chatham Islander, just like it used to be back home on the Islands, and how it’s gonna be in the very near future going by the Whanau on the weekend!

Check it out... | 8 Nov, 2006 |
Saturday 25 November 2006. Mark this date on your calendar and keep it free so as you and the whanau can come and join the rest of us for the Chatham Island picnic.
We’re having it out at Coe’s Ford which is a beaut spot out at Lincoln.
To get there, head south towards Lincoln, from either Shands Road or Springs Road, and at the end of these roads, turn right onto Ellesmere Junction Road.
Head up the road and turn left onto Days Road. Then you turn right onto Pannetts Road.
Head up the road where you’ll see signs indicating where Coe’s Ford is and turn left onto Lake Road, go over the Ford Bridge and entrance is on the left.
Bring a tent and your gears if you want to stay overnight.
For more info, ring Patsy Daymond on; 03 33 88 003
I’ll be there with bells on, and want to talk to people about the mess we have back home on the Chathams, and what we can do to fix it. I’m talking Whakapapa, accountability and Mana.
There are a lot of us who are fed up with the current situation and want to do something about it, but don’t know what or how to go about it. Here’s an excellent place to start the ball rolling - enough is enough! One of the things that people are looking at is to create our own legal identity in the South Island - what do you reckon?
Bring your thoughts and frustrations to the picnic (don’t forget your kai!) and lets all sit down and enjoy each others company, so I’ll see you all Saturday…
